How we report

This page sets out how Energy Siren gathers and checks what it publishes.

Sourcing#

We prefer primary sources: regulatory filings, published tariff schedules, company disclosures, tender documents, court records and official statistics. Where we rely on a secondary source, we say so and link to it.

We name sources wherever possible. We grant anonymity only where a source faces a credible professional or personal risk, and only with an editor's agreement. Anonymous claims that cannot be corroborated independently do not run.

Figures#

Energy reporting is full of numbers that look precise and are not. We apply three rules:

1. Every figure carries its source and its date.
2. Where a figure is an estimate, a projection or an indicative value, we label it as such.
3. Where credible sources disagree, we give the range rather than picking the most striking number.

Figures published here are for information. They should be checked against primary sources before being used in commercial or investment decisions.

Artificial intelligence#

We use software tools for transcription, research assistance and production. Every published article is written and checked by a named human, and responsibility for accuracy rests with the newsroom.

Conflicts of interest#

Staff declare holdings and relationships that could bear on their coverage, and step aside from stories where a conflict exists. Where we report on an organisation with a commercial relationship to Energy Siren, we disclose it in the article.

Corrections#

Accuracy matters more than being first, and more than being right in retrospect.

If we get something wrong, tell us. Write to the desk with the article link and the specific error. We verify, and where a correction is warranted we make it and add a dated note explaining what changed. Substantive corrections are noted on the article itself; we do not quietly edit copy after publication.

Requests to remove accurate reporting are declined.
